Your union is committed to helping you learn the skills you need in order to be able to progress in your life and improve your circumstances, whether that is by being promoted at work, secure better paid employment or help you enjoy your life a bit more.
Through our lifelong learning reps and paid national employees, we can provide a range of training opportunities which will hopefully fit in with your needs and busy lives.
Regular courses previously include:
- Return to Learn – A course covering basic study skills;
- Starting Points – A confidence and basic communication skills course;
- Computing classes, including, Introduction to Computing and the European Computer Driving Licence;
- British Sign Language Courses;
- Finance Skills.
There are masses of great information and courses available online to you. For instance, you should have access to e-learning through your employer (we won’t provide courses that you need to be able to do your current job, that’s your employer’s responsibility to provide).
The council uses the LearnProUk system for its training. To get into your LearnPro account, visit the site at Learn Pro UK. Your user name is your Midlothian or MGFL email address. If you don’t have an email address, please log in using your seven digital employee number as your username.
The default password is “welcome1” and you are encouraged to change this as soon as possible to one you remember after you are successfully logged in for the first time.
Other great sources of help:
Learn my Way – for information about how to use things online.
Full list of public places in Midlothian with free wifi – for places where you can get online for no cost (not even the cost of a coffee)
Midlothian Libraries – all our libraries have PCs available and there’s specialist help at the Gorebridge Library.
It can be daunting to try and find new skills. Sometimes it helps to have a chat with people who know what it’s like – trying to fit in study alongside work. That’s where our lifelong learning representatives can help. Paul Johnston and Dougie Harvey have both personally progressed in their careers through personal study and are happy to speak with you to talk things through.
Why not drop them an email to set up a chat?
